My son turned 5 this year! He’s pretty excited about being 5 and really wanted to carve a pumpkin this Halloween. In the past, we’ve bought pumpkins to carve and never got it together. This year we made time to carve a pumpkin that featured design elements for both kids.My son and I both sketched designs on paper and made a few tweeks. After we were happy with our design, we cut out the shapes and taped them on the pumpkin to ensure it was roughly to scale. After tracing the design onto the pumpkin with a pencil, we carved it out.
Introducing our happy jack-o-lantern face with a number 5 as a tooth for our five year old son and two little teeth at the bottom for our baby who has only two bottom teeth right now!
I haven’t carved a pumpkin since I was a kid and couldn’t believe how easy it was even with an old cheapo $.99 carving kit from the grocery store. I’ve shared a little bit about our birthday candle incident, which makes me afraid to have candles around the kids, so I love that there are now lots of battery operated lighting options to illuminate our jack-o-lantern. Some even have timers!
