When a friend at church told me about the LEGO Advent Calendar, I decided to add it to this years Christmas countdown.
I saw a Lego Advent Calendar advertised last year. I thought you built a Lego structure to put small surprises in for each of the 24 days before Christmas, but that is not what it is at all. She explained it's 24 little packages or LEGO gifts behind doors to build and create a holiday story of Legos that your child opens each day leading up to Christmas. It's for children ages 5-12. Since my little guy is 4 and a LEGO fan, we're giving it try this year hoping it will be a fun family activity. Worst case, if the builds are too complicated, we'll repackage it and use it again next year.
This years LEGO 2012 City Advent Calendar has a firefighter theme where you help rescue Santa’s sleigh in time for Christmas by building each gift. Which is great, since my son’s Pre-School class recently visited our local fire station this year. The set includes 7 minifigures: Santa, 3 firefighters, brother, sister and a mechanic. I hope it also includes some vehicles, as he's a big fan of anything with wheels!
There are also LEGO 2012 Star Wars Advent Calendars for kids 6-14 and LEGO Friends Advent Calendar for girls ages 5-12.
