DIY Anti-Fatigue Mat for the Kitchen - Your Back, Knees, and Feet will Thank You!

Last year I noticed a gorgeous new GelPro mat in my cousin’s newly remodeled kitchen. Even though my uncle joked that it was just a giant mouse pad, it was super comfortable and looked great, so I added it to my wish list. It’s been about a year, the price has remained the same, and I still can’t justify the steep price tag for a floor mat.

While we were at Home Depot over the weekend, I spotted a wipe-able anti-fatigue mat that immediately made me think of the GelPro mat I would love to have in my kitchen. It was definitely not a look alike, in fact the design was all boyish and tough, screaming I belong in the garage with it’s dark black color and tire track texture. Definitely not kitchen material, but I could see past all that and decided it was time for a super simple DIY project!

Worst case if my big idea didn’t work, I could give this garage themed anti-fatigue mat to my Dad for Father’s Day! It was definitely a win-win however it turned out, so we purchased the anti-fatigue mat for only $16.97!

As soon as we got home, I was excited and had to know if it was going to work or not. I took it to the kitchen, slipped the new anti-fatigue mat (measuring in at 2' by 3') under our current rug, and sure enough it is a perfect fit. I wouldn’t have wanted the mat to be too much bigger or it would have lifted the edges of the rug off the ground making it too noticeable.

No one would guess I have a garage style anti-fatigue mat tucked under here! :)

I couldn’t be happier with my new DIY anti-fatigue kitchen mat! After having family visit over the weekend, it was put to the test with hours of meal prep and a boatload of dishes to wash. Having an anti-fatigue mat made a huge difference and my feet and back thank me. :)

Looks exactly the same, but it is noticeably more cushy and comfortable.

In fact, it works so well I may just get my Dad one for his garage for Father’s Day too!
