I love, love, love fresh Hawaiian pineapple! In fact, it’s one of the first things we purchase after picking up a rental car when visiting Hawaii. I like to display a fresh pineapple on the table like fresh flowers. Like flowers, when you walk by the fragrance is intoxicating and smells like the islands. It’s not surprising that in some cultures, the pineapple is associated with the idea of “Welcome”.
Although, fresh pineapples are absolutely delicious on the mainland there is something special about enjoying one locally in Hawaii. The taste is so much sweeter and super juicy. And the core that I normally cut away and discard because it is just too tough and fibrous is much softer in Hawaii. I don’t even bother cutting it away; we just chop it and eat it too.
I would have shared a picture of our first pineapple, but as you probably guessed it was thoroughly enjoyed and already long gone. :) This pineapple photo was from our last visit to the Dole plantation.
