With all the fresh and affordable fruit available during the summer, it’s a great time to make freezer jam to enjoy all year long.
During our last trip to Sam’s Club, we purchased tasty strawberries to make freezer jam. I was lucky, my grandmother and mother always canned homemade jams and jellies during the summer. Their homemade jams were always tasty, but now that I’m older I’m very conscious of how much added sugar we consume. I recently found Ball’s No Cook Freezer Jam Fruit Pectin that requires only 1 1/2 cups of sugar to make five half pint (8 oz) jars of jam. Other jam recipes call for 4 or more cups of added sugar and much less fruit for the same amount of jam. I was excited to find an easy, no cook recipe that required a significantly lower amount of sugar, so I had to give it a try.
Strawberry Freezer Jam
Makes 5 (8 oz.) half pint jars of jam.
Recipe from Ball Simple Creations No Cook Freezer Jam Fruit Pectin Package.
Ingredients:
1 Package Ball Simple Creations No Cook Freezer Jam Fruit Pectin
4 Cups Fresh or Frozen Fruit, Crushed* (For Fresh Strawberries, you’ll need about 4 - 1lb. containers, washed and hulled)
1-1/2 Cups Sugar
5 Freezable Jars (8oz. each) or 10 Freezable Jars (4 oz. each)
*The pectin package indicates: “For best results, use apricots, berries, cherries, grapes, pears, plums and most other tender fruit. For peaches, follow the Peach Freezer Jam recipe on the pectin package.”
Directions:
1. Put sugar in a bowl and stir in contents of fruit pectin package until well blended.
2. Crush 4 Cups of your favorite fruit. I like to use a masher to crush the fruit, but you could use a blender for a super smooth texture.
3. Stir 4 Cups crushed fruit with sugar and pectin. Stir 3 minutes longer.
4. Ladle or pour jam into clean jars to fill line. Put lids on jars of jam. Let stand about 30 minutes until thickened.
5. Label each jam jar with contents and date.
6. Enjoy Now by storing in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or Freeze for up to 1 year.
Tip: Don’t forget to allow a little space on the top of each jar for expanding in the freezer! If you have too much jam, just put the extra in a small dish and store in the refrigerator (if it lasts that long!).
The jam tastes amazing, like a sweet summer day, and since it’s no cook, it has a delicious fresh strawberry taste. Although it doesn’t gel as hard as some of the other jam recipes my family makes, we will definitely use this no cook freezer jam fruit pectin again.
This Strawberry Freezer Jam is tasty on breakfast toast, bagels, and muffins and would also make a delicious topping for waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, greek yogurt, or even ice cream! If you’ve never made homemade jam, you should definitely give it a try! It tastes so good and really is super easy to make at home yourself. Enjoy!
